The Flash Movie Delayed; Loses Director Rick Famuyiwa

In what may be looked at as shocking news, it’s learned that the DCEU Ezra Miller The Flash movie has lost director Rick Famuyiwa and looks to be delayed.

THR reports on the matter noting Rick Famuyiwa, who is known for directing Dope and by all accounts was super excited to direct the big screen adaptation of the DC speedster, has departed The Flash over “creative differences.”

It’s reported that Rick Famuyiwa’s vision of The Flash movie clashed with WB because Famuyiwa wanted to make a movie with more edge than what the studio wanted to go with.

Rick Famuyiwa has been developing The Flash movie since June and brought on Dope actor Kiersey Clemons and Watchmen’s Billy Crudup in key roles. Famuyiwa has also been regularly teasing fans on social networks about The Flash movie with inclusion of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.

It was said production on The Flash movie was to begin this coming March for a March 16, 2018 release, but now that a new director has to be brought on board, and what sounds like an altered script, it’s speculated the release date for The Flash may be pushed back.

Another problem for filming on The Flash movie is that Ezra Miller is due on another project in July, which may push back The Flash even further.

Rick Famuyiwa released the following statement about his departure from The Flash:

“When I was approached by Warner Bros. and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Bros., DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”
